Baking potatoes can be used as an appetizer, side dish, or main course. Baked potatoes are easy to make in the air fryer.

Similar to how you would bake a potato in the oven you can get the same results using the air fryer with less cleaning and a shorter cooking time. The air fryer doesn’t need to be preheated like an oven.

Ingredients

This is a simple recipe that only requires three essential ingredients, which you probably already have in the kitchen.

  • Potatoes- We recommend Russet potatoes, also known as Idaho potatoes. Your potatoes must be all the same size to ensure even cooking.
  • Oil – The oil is what gives your skin its crispiness. This recipe uses olive oil. You can use cooking spray to replace oil.
  • Salt- We add sea salt to potatoes to enhance the flavor. But, you can also use what you have.

How To Make Air Fryer Baked Potatoes?

  • Prep – Start by washing potatoes under running cold water and then dry them thoroughly. Use a fork and poke potatoes around the edges.
  • Heat oil and salt- Add potatoes to the basket of an air fryer and drizzle oil and salt over them. Rub the oil on all sides until the potatoes are well coated.
  • Air Fry – Cook the potatoes in a basket-type air fryer for 30 minutes at 400°F. Flip the potatoes, and cook for an additional 5-15 minutes until a knife easily passes through the center.

What Is The Best Way To Tell If A Baked Potato Has Been Done?

The time it takes to cook air fryer baked potato depends on how large the potato is and what size air fryer you use. For smaller potatoes, it will take less time. Larger and thicker potatoes take longer. Cook the potatoes until a knife can penetrate the center. To cook potatoes that requires a longer cooking time, return the basket to the oven and continue cooking for another 3 to 5 minutes.

Tips on Potatoes in the Air Fryer

  • Test to determine doneness: Your potato has been cooked through when a knife placed into the center of it can be easily pierced. If the potatoes require additional time, they can be cooked in the air fryer.
  • Salt potatoes: The potato peels are edible and very tasty when salt is added. Make sure you wash the potato well under running water before frying it.
  • You can poke your potatoes with a fork. But, air fryer potatoes may burst if you don’t poke them with a sharp knife. We recommend that you only poke your potatoes for 10 seconds.
  • Don’t overload the oven. You want the air circulation to evenly distribute around the potatoes.
  • Prepare the potatoes by heating them in an oven at 400°F for about 10 minutes.
